Pray for Jason

I was on my way to the grocery store this morning and I came upon an all too common modern day conundrum. There was this over sized SUV parked in front of a house in my neighborhood, and finger-painted on the back window was a large, rather conspicuous statement. It was obviously meant for every passer by to see, whether in a car, on a bicycle or piloting a low-flying aircraft. It read, simply, “pray for Jason”.

My first instinct, of course, being the incredible humanitarian that I am, was to do just that; to pray for this Jason fellow, whatever his situation may be. I remember wondering, though, for a brief second, if given the choice, he may prefer to face his challenge alone, without my oddly recruited assistance. I haven’t always been known as the best person to list as a character reference, after all. And what if my prayer doesn’t come off quite right, and God becomes offended at the lack of biblical references in my opening speech? Will that count against Jason, or will he be graded simply on the number of people who choose to pray for him alone? And more importantly, who the fuck are we praying TO, exactly? I realize that, statistically speaking, for this region, anyway, it’s most likely this Jesus fellow. But what sect? I would hate to spend time praying to the Baptist’ Jesus, just to learn that Jason was Church of Christ all along! I mean, what a waste of time, for the both of us.

Unfortunately, statistically speaking, time isn’t something that Jason has much of these days. I don’t know if Jason’s family would appreciate this or not, but I’m going to take the time that I may have spent praying for him and use it to sign every petition that I can find, and talk to every person that I have even the slightest hope of reaching, and together we are going to STOP THE DEATH IN IRAQ.

End of the World
